This guide explains how to create a Nominal Shortcut in Navigator. Shortcuts allow you to quickly access commonly used nominal codes, saving time during day-to-day tasks.
Steps to Create a Nominal Shortcut
Navigate to the Nominal Shortcut Setup
- Go to the Accounts section on the left-hand menu.
- Select Nominal Ledger.
- Click the Utilities icon.
- Choose Set Up.
Access the Shortcut Tab
- Once the setup screen displays, click on the Shortcut tab.
Create a New Shortcut
- Click the Create button.
- Enter the following information:
a) Description:
- Provide a clear and descriptive name for the shortcut.
- Tip: To make shortcuts easier to locate, consider starting descriptions with terms like Parts, Service, etc.
b) Nominal Code:
- Enter the nominal code manually if you know it, OR
- Use the Lookupbutton to find and select the desired code:
- Go to the Code box and begin typing part of the nominal code.
- Press Tab to display a list of matching codes from the Chart of Accounts.
- Double-click the desired code to populate the full nominal structure.
Populate Additional Fields
- Complete the following fields as needed:
- Branch
- Department
- Complete the following fields as needed:
Save and Update
- Click OK to save the shortcut.
- The new shortcut will now appear in the list.
Shortcut List Order
- The shortcut list is displayed alphabetically.
- For better organisation, consider using consistent naming conventions in the description, such as starting with Parts, Service, or Admin.
Example
- Description: Parts - Bank Charges
- Nominal Code: 0.0.70.2
- Branch/Dept: Populate as required.

- Creating shortcuts simplifies the process of selecting nominal codes during postings.
